President's Message
Welcome!
I want to welcome you to the Colorado Technology Education Association and our official web site.
In 1985, the Colorado Industrial Arts Association (CIAA) changed its name, and in many cases, focus, to the Colorado Technology Education Association. This change caused a lot of growing pains but through it all our members continued to support each other and share their knowledge and experiences. Today, 25 years later, that support and sharing is still an integral part of CTEA. This is evident in the number and variety of interest sessions offered at our annual conference.
Like most of you, I am a classroom teacher working hard to make sure that my students are prepared to become productive members of society. Whether you are an industrial arts instructor, a technology education teacher, engineering technology instructor, or do a combination of these, we are all teaching students skills that will last them a lifetime.
During the past few years, many of us have felt isolation caused by change -- changes in curriculum focus, changes in required assessments, changes in graduation requirements, and changes in funding priorities. As CTEA president, I am committed to including all of you in the direction that our organization goes. CTEA is your professional organization and needs a variety of voices to make it strong. Will we always agree? Probably not, but through dialog we can make CTEA into a stronger organization. I have quote attached to my e-mails: “It is better to have discussion and not solve a problem than to solve a problem without discussion.” I truly believe that through dialog and discussion we are strong.
Join us for the 25th CTEA conference November 11-12 on the Lowry (Denver) campus of the Colorado Community College System to share ideas, participate in professional development, go on amazing industry tours and renew friendships.
Best regards,
Bob Steketee
CTEA President 2009-2010
